About the Scholarship
The William R. Kirby Scholarship was established in August 2000 by former athletes, friends and family in honor of his many contributions as a teacher, coach and administrator at Ithaca High School. Bill Kirby spent his entire career at Ithaca High School, beginning in 1953.  His career included serving as a physical education teacher and head basketball coach, as well as coaching baseball and football.  Coach Kirby started the youth Saturday basketball program and oversaw the Ithaca Little League summer baseball program.  In 1969, he became the Principal at the high school until his retirement in 1987.  Bill was highly regarded at the high school, in the community and within his profession for his expertise and guidance to students and athletes.  This scholarship is meant to honor him by supporting the education of scholar-athletes graduating from Ithaca High School.
